The Black Knights Car Club will hold its last cruise-in of the season Friday night in Library Square in Estherville from 6:30-10 p.m. Team Anderson will serve Philly cheesesteak sandwiches, macaroni salad, bars and drinks for $5 from 6-8 p.m. at the northwest corner of Library Square.

The Black Knights Car Club in its meeting Tuesday night at the Repair Center in Estherville put the finishing touches on the second annual drag races Sunday, Sept. 20 at the Estherville Airport.

The drags will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $2 a person and racers will pay $5 a drag or $20 for the day. The gates open at 9 a.m. for drivers to register.

Cars must be street legal, have seatbelts and tires must be DOT certified - no slicks allowed. Member Ton Inman will provide a Christmas tree light configuration for the race.

Absolutely no alcoholic beverages will be allowed on the airport grounds whatsoever. People found consuming alcohol or with alcohol in their possession will be arrested. Emmet County deputies will be at the event in force to enforce any alcohol laws. No unattended vehicles will be allowed on pavement at the airport. Parking must be on designated grassy areas. No trailers will be allowed.

A wide variety of concessions will be available, including pizza from Woody's Pizza as well as pork loins, barbeque ribs, taco in a bag, sloppy Joes, caramel corn and desserts.

If last year's event is any indication, the crowd should be huge. Estimates pegged last year's attendance at over 1,000 and many other car clubs from throughout the region have indicated they're coming in large numbers to race for bragging rights as to who has the hottest car.

In a related matter, members agreed to an offer of assistance from Terry Reekers of the Christian Motorcyclist Association to help with traffic control during the drags. The CMA will also have a table to distribute materials to interested persons.

The club approved donating $100 to the Shayla Bee fund.

The group also made plans for a cookout 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10.

The Black Knights meet 7 p.m. the first Tuesday of every month at The Repair Center at 1724 Central Ave. Membership is open to anyone who has a love of antique or classic cars. The club is dedicated to helping others in need and routinely donates to worthy causes.
