Wind program director hired

Lutat is new man at Iowa Lakes CC

The Iowa Lakes Community College Board of Trustees Thursday hired a new director of wind turbine technology.

Daniel Lutat will replace Al Zietz who took a position as North American director of operations with De Wind, Inc. of Irvine, Calif.

Lutat had a 27 1/2 year career in the Air Force with a strong technical/managerial background in aviation and industrial power generation.

The board also approved a number of early retirements, including: Ron Anderson, television system/micro computer network technician; Patricia Breuer, continuing education office assistant; Judy Cook, executive dean of instruction and development; Doug Dingel, social science professor; Roger Guge, admissions counselor; Eileen Kadow, math associate professor; Trudy Kattner, Algona campus supervisor; Anne Peterson, math professor and Angie Rose, assistant to the executive director of marketing.

"With our nine early retirees we have some major losses to our college," said President Val Newhouse.

In other business, the board approved third reading of the conflict of interest board policy.

The board also approved training agreements with Country Maid of West Bend and Brown Medical of Spirit Lake. Country Maid expects to add 19 jobs at a wage of $17 or more an hour over the next three years.

In the Foundation Update, Jolene Rogers, executive director of institutional development, requested and the board approved an arrangement whereby auto body students will do body work on a van for the Snap-on company which will donate a $13,000 tool box to the program.

The board approved issuance of $1,570,000 in dormitory revenue bonds to help finance the new dorms north of the dorms completed in 2006. The college will receive a 35 percent rebate on bond interest.
