by Michael Tidemann - Staff Writer

The Black Knights Car Club at its monthly meeting Tuesday night at the Estherville VFW put finishing touches on the club's airport stoplight drags Sunday, Sept. 19 at the Northwest Iowa Regional Airport in Spencer.

Event coordinator Eric Anderson said there will be a 350-foot track from start to finish, with 600 feet to shut down. "Everyone in Spencer is very positive" about the drags coming to the airport, he said.

Barb Blaise, concessions coordinator for the event, noted a number of food vendors who have committed. She said she is still looking for a small group that would like to run the popcorn machine which is provided. Any nonprofit group interested in running the popcorn machine as a concession may call 362-2872.

The gates to this years drags open at 9 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 19 with racing from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. All cars will be inspected. Safety inspectors have the final say on eligibility. Vehicles must be registered, licensed and have proof of insurance. Only D.O.T. approved tires will be allowed and there will be no motorcycle class.

Concessions will be available on the grounds. Absolutely no pets, alcoholic beverages or smoking will be allowed on the grounds.

The rain date for the drags is Sept. 26.
