Jean Harlow could have ridden in it. She lived until 1937.
Clark Gable could have too. He lived until 1960.
So maybe they did.
Eric Anderson's 1937 Buick limo was a real eye-popper at the Black Knights Car Club's Sweet Corn Days car show Saturday. Manufactured as the McLaughlin Buick in Canada, only 90 of the special cars were built and only five remain in existence.
The pearl-mist color seems almost ghost-like, quite fitting if Gable and Harlow are along for the ride. Anderson, who bought the car in Sioux Falls, S.D., said the original owner was in Rapid City, S.D.
The original inline V-8 was swapped out for a 455 C.I.D. engine from a 1976 Riviera - a classic in its own right. The transmission is from a '76 Riviera too. Anderson said the engine churns out 360 horsepower, 240 more than the original.
Original features include jump seats that fold into the back of the front seat and original suicide door handles. Newer appointments include air ride suspension and widened fender wells to accommodate modern radials.
Weighing in at a hefty 4,865 pounds and with a six-and-a-half-foot hood, the original list price was $3,200.
