Wow! What a weekend!
Another Sweet Corn Days has come and passed, and it seems this one was bigger and better than ever.
The crowds lined along Central Avenue were bigger. There were more food vendors than ever. The fireworks, delayed from Friday to Saturday night, were well worth the wait. And we can thank Iowa Protein Solutions for a great display.
And then there was the sweet corn - 7,200 ears, to be precise -probably a couple tons. Folks lined up early again so Iowa Lakes Community College, Emmet County and the City of Estherville could "lend them an ear (or two)".
The timing couldn't have been better either for the timely return of our returning Guard members who, along with some active duty military personnel, were able to ride in Saturday's parade.
The Black Knights Car Club put on a fantastic car show again this year - the sixth in a row. This is a great organization that makes a lot of donations to worthy causes, so if you want to support them, be sure to attend their airport drags 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25 at the Spencer Airport.
Thanks go too to the fine folks who were willing to sit on the dunk tank again this year.
The Saturday night street dance was wall to wall as folks danced under the stars just as the night started to cool. It got go busy that the refreshment stand ran out for a bit.
Rev. Lynn Elrod and Dee McDonald and Denise Leal of Cornerstone, along with their cadre of scripture readers, should get a hand too for putting on the community worship service 11 a.m. Sunday in Library Square.
And, most of all, thanks have to go to the many volunteers which included a lot of chamber members. Without you, there simply would not have been a Sweet Corn Days.
And we promise, Renee, your job won't be as stressful as the first month was.
