To the Editor:
It has been a little over a year and a half since I brought up concerns about odors from Iowa Protein Solutions rendering plant located South of Estherville in the old Golden Sun Feeds plant.
My worry was the odor would be ongoing affecting not only my family's but the entire town's quality of life.
Starting in March of 2011 I noticed a big improvement. In talking with Manager/Owner Doug Skinner he mentioned they added another scrubber and also re-directed the plants odor-laden air through the boiler where it is used for combustion which eliminates the objectionable smell.
I can not speak for everyone as there are many people who live/work closer to the plant then I, but for my part, living where I do on the south end of town, the situation now is so improved I can state had it been like this in 2010 I would have never raised the complaint I did.
I would like to congratulate Doug Skinner and his employees not only for the work, and money, they have put forth to get the odor problem under control but for their recent selection to receive the prestigious Iowa Venture Award.
I would also like to thank not only the County Supervisors for their efforts but all the people who helped simply by caring enough to call in.
