The need is constant, the reward is great

Estherville Daily News

To the Editor

The American Red Cross came to Estherville on Thursday, February 9th to help us celebrate Valentines Day a little early. Yes, we had another blood drive.

This drive was sponsored by Estherville Lutheran Church and was held at the Duhigg Center. The cookies provided by the church were so varied and delicious.

It was hard to select just one, so many donors sampled more than just one. Thank You!! We gave out only one-gallon pin this drive, but it was a biggie: Don West received his twelfth (12!!) gallon pin. That means that this was his 96th donation. WOW!!

We also saw many new facees at this drive, not new donorsjust new faces to Estherville.

We welcomed Patrick Eaton, Donald Metzler, Genoeva Lopez, Gerald Paterson, Russ Richard, Brandon Gifford, Tanya Sutton, Lynn Flatfard, Mike Alig and Amanda Hagedorn. Also Sandi Reigard, Emily Kirshner, Kevin Spoo and Kim Phillips. I hope to see these new faces and many more "old" faces at the next blood drive on May 1,2012 at the Duhigg Center. I don't have a sponsor yet, but I am working on one.

We were able to collect 61 units of blood for the Red Cross, which is enough to impact 183 lives in need of some aspect of that life giving force within each of us.

I urge old and new donors and those who may have never thought about giving something of themselves before to make an appointment or just come to the next blood drive on May 1st. THE NEED IS CONSTANT.
