DES MOINES - Two matches resulted in two pins for Estherville Lincoln Central's state qualifiers in the first-round of the Class 2A Wrestling Tournament on Thursday.
Both ELC sophomore Oscar Ramirez (120) and senior Gable Bonner (285) won in the second period of their respective matches.
Ramirez led Justin Aman 2-1 after the first period. Aman started in the down position in the second period and came up for the escape to tie the match. But Ramirez came up with the takedown and then held on for the pin in the closing seconds. The fall time was a second before the end of the period in 3:59.
ELC senior Gable Bonner, ranked sixth, needed just 3 minutes, 6 seconds to pin OA/BCIG’s Tanner Thompson, ranked seventh, in the first round of the Class 2A State Tournament heavyweight bracket on Thursday.

Ramirez will take on ninth-ranked Jimmy Scieszinski (34-9) of Van Meter in today's quarterfinal match. Scieszinski won his first-round match 4-2 over Cherokee's Hunter Morrow.
Bonner (35-3), ranked sixth, led 2-0 over Tanner Thompson (34-6) of Odebolt-Arthur/Battle Creek-Ida Grove in the first period. Bonner started in the down position in the second period came up with a quick reversal and the fall in 3:06.
Bonner will face top-ranked Collin Bevins (49-1) of Creston/Orient-Macksburg in today's quarterfinal match.
Class 2A quarterfinals and second-round consolation matches are scheduled from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
Class 2A semifinals and third-round consolation matches are at 8:30 p.m.
