ESTHERVILLE - Funeral services for Lavon (Mrs. R.F.) DeLoss, 93, of Spencer will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012, at Henry-Olson Funeral Home in Estherville with Rev. Dan Mayes, Pastor of First Christian Church, Spencer, officiating. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of services Saturday. Interment will be at East Side Cemetery in Estherville.
She died at her home in Spencer on Wednesday, Feb. 22.
Lavon was born Nov. 30, 1918, on a farm in Twelve Mile Township in Emmet County, to parents David and Nina (Riggs) Ingvall. She began her education in a one-room rural schoolhouse. After her family moved to a farm near Estherville, she attended Estherville High School, graduating in 1936.
While working at the DeLoss family's bakery in Estherville, she met her husband to be, R.F. (Roy) DeLoss. They were married Sept. 18, 1937. In 1940 they moved to a farm midway between Terril and Milford, lived there until 1955, and then moved to Spencer, where they operated the R.F.D. Bakery and Grocery until a fire destroyed it in early 1959. Thereafter, they developed their part-time home construction efforts into a full-time enterprise, building both homes for sale and rental homes in Spencer. After R.F. DeLoss passed in 1968, Lavon managed her own rental homes while also working for many years for her son Barry's construction and apartment businesses.
Throughout her life, Lavon was renowned for her work ethic, intelligence and goodness. Though housebound during recent years, she continued to operate several duplex rentals with the aid of her sons.
Left to cherish Lavon's memory are her six sons, Tyrone of Barstow, Calif. and David, Barry, Garry, Vaughn and Craig of Spencer; her sisters, Dorothy Mead of Sioux Falls. S.D. and Evelyn Hansen of Ringsted; her brother, Lloyd Ingvall, of Estherville; and numerous nephews, nieces, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Lavon was predeceased by her parents, David and Nina (Riggs) Ingvall; her husband, R.F. DeLoss; her daughter, Linda (DeLoss) Smock; her brothers, Cliff Ingvall and Clarence Ingvall; and her sisters, Laura Hansen, Mabel Howard, Alice Weber and Florence Wilson.
