It isn't all that often when we have the chance to wish a large group of students well when they go to state competition - except for athletics, of course. But we have that chance now as Estherville Lincoln Central sends 10 students to compete in the State Individual Speech contest Saturday in Sibley.
There are 10 students competing in 14 categories - with four students in two categories each. Under the very capable direction of Michael Maffin and Amy Condon, this will be the best slate of competitors ELC has sent to state competition for quite some time. Those getting a I rating and recommendation from two out of three judges will advance to All-State competition.
Those competing are:
n Kendall Bosch - storytelling (Return of Hansen and Gretel), radio news broadcast.
n Cheyanne Lepird - radio news broadcast, solo musical theater (Singing on My Own from Les Miserables).
n Maddie Rimmer - solo musical theater (I Can Hear the Bells from Hairspray).
n Elizabeth Simon - original oratory.
n Kyle Marks - improv, acting piece.
n Reese Vedder - radio news broadcast, solo musical theater (The Hardest Part of Love from Children of Eden).
n Matt Ingvall - solo musical theater (This is the Moment from Jeckyll and Hyde).
n Harley Moffitt - extemporaneous speaking.
n Maddy Burns - solo musical theater (In My Own Little Corner from Cinderella).
n Emily Chrestiansen - storytelling.
So wish them well - and the best of luck to the winners at All-State.
