Carnival shows leadership by Talented and Gifted students, S.O.S. parents

March 27, 2012
Estherville Daily News

Parents of Estherville Middle School Talented and Gifted students should have been proud of their children and children of S.O.S. parents should have been proud of their moms and dads Tuesday night.

The reason, of course, is that both groups pitched in to host a carnival in the Estherville Middle School gym. Activities included bean bag games, face painting, basketball toss and lots of other things for kids to do. It was a wonderful way for kids to break away from the doldrums of winter and enjoy a beautiful day.

The money raised goes for a great purpose - basketball and tetherball courts at the middle school.

That, too, is a wonderful project. Without doubt, middle-school teachers will find their charges a lot easier to handle if they have a chance to blow off a little steam with some healthy exercise. And, particularly with the governor's emphasis on wellness, all schools at all levels should be encouraging students to be active and stay healthy. And this project does exactly that.

So congratulations to everyone involved - Talented and Gifted kids, S.O.S. parents, the kids who attended, the teachers who helped and the volunteers who came and had a great time.

Your efforts are immensely appreciated.
