MASON CITY - The Iowa Lakes softball team picked up a pair of conference victories as the Lakers swept North Iowa Area Community College on Wednesday.
Iowa Lakes shut out the Trojans 8-0 in five innings in game one and then eked out a 4-3 victory in the second game.
Taylor Burmeister earned the first game victory. She gave up five hits while striking out three batters and walking one in five innings of work.

The Lakers only managed six hits, but all eight of their runs were earned as they also drew six walks.
At the plate, Michelle Thille went 2-2 and scored twice. Laura Holm was 1-3 with three RBIs. Sarah Christopher was 1-3 with two RBIs. Jade Cherkas was 1-2 and Amber Holmgren was 1-3. Morgan Zollner and Burmeister each had an RBI.
NIACC out-hit Iowa Lakes 7-4 in the second game, but Iowa Lakes still prevailed.

Christopher pitched five innings and earned the victory. She gave up two runs on five hits with two strikeouts and no walks. Burmeister closed out the game giving up one run on two hits with two strikeouts and two walks.
At the plate, Zollner was 2-4 with an RBI. Burmeister was 1-2 with two RBIs and Thille was 1-1 and scored three times. Holm had an RBI also.
Iowa Lakes (8-20 overall, 7-11 in the conference) is on the road this weekend with a doubleheader against Kirkwood on Saturday and a doubleheader against Marshalltown on Sunday.
