ESTHERVILLE - Funeral services for Janet Diekmann, 74, of Ceylon, Minn., will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 4, 2012, at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville with Pastor Donna Gray officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville. Interment will be at Lake Belt Cemetery in Ceylon, Minn.
She died Thursday, April 26, 2012, at Avera Holy Family Health in Estherville.
Janet Arlene (Aagard) Diekmann, the daughter of Holger and Irene (Harvego) Aagard, was born April 25, 1938, in Estherville.
She grew up on a farm east of Huntington and received her education in Estherville schools, graduating from Estherville High School. Janet continued her education following high school and attended the DeLyle Beauty School in Fairmont, Minn. She worked at Wallace Beauty Shop in Fairmont. In 1963, she opened her own shop in her home in Ceylon until her multiple sclerosis progressed to the point that Janet could no longer work. Allen has taken care of her at home for the last 30 years, the past seven years with the help of Avera Home Health nurses and aides.
On April 2, 1960, Janet was united in marriage to Allen Diekmann at the United Methodist Church in Estherville. The couple raised their family and lived in Ceylon, Minn. their entire married life.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Huntington.
Janet is survived by her husband, Allen, of Ceylon; children, Renee Hintze and her husband, Kent, of Estherville and Deanna Harris and her husband, Greg, of Muscatine; three grandchildren, Michael, Meghan and Morgan; siblings, Stephen Aagard and his wife, Mary, of Forest City and Judith Johnson and her husband, Dennis, of Estherville; brother-in-law, Orville Diekmann, of Fairmont and sisters-in-law, Laverna Diekmann of Trimont and Julia Diekmann of Fairmont.
She has been preceded in death by her parents, Irene and Holger Aagard; her in-laws, William and Mary Diekmann; brothers-in-law, Harold and Wallace Diekmann and sister-in-law, Wilma and E.W. "Shorty" Schmidtke.
