When Estherville Area Chamber of Commerce members heard former executive director Renee was leaving, everyone's heart skipped a beat.
Stowell, who began her work with the Chamber as a volunteer, flew into her duties like a prairie tornado, multi-tasking like there was no tomorrow.
Whether it was the flight breakfast, Sweet Corn Days, Downtown Market, Snow Globes Winter Festival or TUBACHRISTMAS, Stowell was there, performing miracles.
That's probably why everyone was so saddened to hear she was leaving. And leave she did, last night to join her husband, Eric, who took a new position in La Crosse, Wis., Stowell's home territory. Stowell, who worked in student services at Oregon State University prior to coming to Estherville, had her interest piqued by her work as chamber executive director and now she's looking forward to a position possibly in promotions in the next phase of her career.
But the chamber found a gem in Neppl. An Estherville native, she received her bachelor's in English and journalism from Briar Cliff and her master's in mass communication from Drake University.
Neppl comes with an enormously successful background in promotions and tourism, her last position as social media manager for Tennis Auckland in New Zealand.
Neppl, an Estherville native, was pleased - and maye even a little surprised - to see that Estherville had embarked on a branding campaign. She sees that as a huge step in the right direction, a sign the community's moving forward.
While we're sad - truly sad - to see Renee leave, the chamber couldn't have found a better replacement. And Renee would probably tell you that herself.
The only thing limiting us now is our imagination.
