Pearl Paulson

Pearl received her education in Lost Island Township School and at Graettinger High School. On Nov. 23, 1935, Pearl was united in marriage to Chester L. Paulson at her parents' home near Graettinger. Following their marriage the couple farmed for 39 years south of Estherville where they raised their two sons.

Pearl was a faithful member of Wallingford Lutheran Church where she served as a Ladies Aid member, Circle leader/member, Sunday school teacher and contributed many hours in the kitchen preparing for special occasions. Pearl loved helping with the farm work, gardening, sewing, cooking and baking. She was a truly devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who always enjoyed visiting and entertaining the family. She and Chet traveled extensively, especially during the winter months to warm climates. Many lasting friendships developed during their travels. Attending the 1976 Winter Olympics in Montreal, Canada and a trip to Norway were highlights of these trips. Sports were a special interest for Pearl. One could always be sure to see Chet and Pearl Paulson at many of the local high school and junior college games.

In 1974, Chet and Pearl moved from their farm to the town of Wallingford. They became one of the first couples to move to the new Homestead Co-op located in Estherville in 1995. Chester passed away on Dec. 18, 1997. Pearl continued living at Homestead until June of 2008 when she relocated to the Good Samaritan Home in Estherville.

Left to cherish Pearl's memory are her son, David, and wife, LeAnn, of Eden Prairie, Minn.; daughter-in-law, Marty (Paulson), and husband, Fred Bergsrud, of New Brighton, Minn.; grandchildren include Nancy and husband, John Pelegano, of Glastonbury, Conn., Steven and his wife, Laurie Paulson, of Kane, Pa., Kirstin and husband, Cory Kopp, of Brooklyn Park, Minn., Annikka and her husband, Jimmy Strong, of New Brighton, Minn., Jon Paulson of Minneapolis and Tory Paulson of Minneapolis. Great-grandchildren include Benjamin and Hannah Pelegano; Erin Paulson; Anabritta and Kellen Kopp; Bryanna, Leif and Mari Erickson and Emily Jacob and Becky Strong. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Wilma Bonstead of Reno, Nev. She leaves several nieces and nephews, together with many friends. Marilyn Hanson, Shirley Schacherer, Lois Torreson and Sandy Sorbo were outstanding caregivers during the past few years at Homestead and the Good Samaritan Home.

Preceding Pearl in death were her parents; her loving husband, Chester; son, Wayne Paulson, Dec. 3, 1993; brothers, Oral, Lyle and Carl Bonstead and sister, Mildred Jacobson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may given to the Good Samaritan Society for their ice cream machine. Online condolences may be sent to
