Help your kids dream big

May 10, 2012
Estherville Daily News

The theme of this summers summer reading program at the Estherville Public Library is Dream Big READ!

We couldn't think of a better slogan for a program that helps young people to not only maintain but improve their reading skills over the summer.

This year's summer reading program will run June 4 through July 14 and is open to those who will be sixth graders fall 2012 and younger. Registration may be done in person at the library at 613 Central Ave., by phone at 362-7731 or online at www.estherville.lib.ia.us.

Reading through the summer is great in a number of ways. For one, it keeps kids busy so they aren't always asking, "Mom, I don't have anything to do."

Another benefit, of course, is that reading is a very constructive use of their time. By reading over the summer, they'll continue to improve their vocabulary skills so they'll be far more advanced when school starts in the fall.

Reading also helps kids explore new worlds, see things they never imagined could happen. And who knows, maybe they'll develop an interest is something as major as a career.

So if you have kids who will be in sixth grade or younger, make sure you register them in this great program today. Your kids will undoubtedly make a lot of new friends and there's always wonderful prizes at the end.

And while you're at it, check out their adult section too, including books, audiobooks and digital media.

If you haven't checked out your library lately, you haven't checked it out at all.
