SIOUX CENTER - Estherville Lincoln Central Boys Track Coach Dick Barrett kept the reports coming throughout the evening.
The Midgets came away with three top-two finishes which automatically qualify for state.
The first came just after 5 p.m. as the Midgets' 4x800-meter relay team took second place and earned an automatic bid to next week's state track meet.
The team of Rodrick Fuller, Alex Blomquist, Blake Gjerde and Tyler Swanson finished in 8 minutes, 28.3 seconds.
Blomquist had the fastest split, running the second leg just under 2 minutes.
Barrett said the senior was several feet back and passed several runners to put the Midgets in good position.
Swanson wasn't far off Blomquist's time with an anchor leg in 2:03.8. Both Rodrick and Gjerde were at 2:12.
About an hour later, Gable Bonner had won the shot put. With a throw more than 2 feet further than his previous best, the ELC senior won the event with a toss of 49 feet, 10 1/4 inches.
The last call came after 9:15 as Barrett reported Blomquist also qualified in the 800-meter run after placing second in 2:02.61.
In other events, Joe Heinrichs placed fifth in the 3200-meter run. Chase Bonner placed eighth in the shot put with a throw of 42 feet, 4 1/4 inches.
