Betty Jean Christensen

She received her education and graduated from the Emmet County Consolidated School in rural Estherville. After graduation from high school Betty attended Estherville Junior College.

Early during the World War II era Betty lived in California where she was employed at an airplane factory. On Feb. 6, 1948, Betty was united in marriage to Albert Wesley Christensen in Fostoria. The couple made their home, began raising their family and farmed west of Huntington their entire married life. Betty was very actively involved in the farming operation, doing chores, especially enjoying raising hogs. She also raised chickens and maintained a huge garden. In the busy spring and fall fieldwork, she would prepare meals and many times bring it directly to the field where the men were working. In the summer you would find Betty walking beans with her family. She was employed at the AAA office in Estherville also. In her leisure time Betty enjoyed going to dances with Wesley, doing puzzles and sewing. Most important to Betty was spending time with her family. Wesley died Aug. 30, 1998. After Wesley's death Betty continued to make her home on the family farm until her death.

Betty was a member of the United Methodist Church in Estherville.

Left to cherish Betty's memory are her children, Linda Schleisman and her husband, Bob, of Washington, Utah; Dennis Christensen and his wife, Maria, of Yucca Valley, Calif.; Jack Christensen and his wife, Judy, of Estherville and Kaylene Thomas of Coon Rapids, Minn. Also surviving are eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and two sisters, Wilma Ellis of Winona, Minn. and Marilyn Syverson of Estherville.
