ESTHERVILLE - Funeral services for Myrtle Farrand, 96, formerly of Estherville, will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 14, 2012, at Calvary Gospel Assembly in Estherville with Pastor Travis Rosinger officiating. Visitation will be held 5-8 p.m. Friday, July 13 at the Henry-Olson Funeral Home in Estherville. Interment will be held at Union State Line Cemetery in Petersburg, Minn.

She went to Heaven Monday evening, July 9, 2012, from Des Moines where she had lived with her daughter since November of 2009.

She was born July 21, 1915, near Petersburg, Minn., the daughter of Albert and Marie (Guge) Aasby. She was raised on the family homestead until she was five when her father passed away. She then lived with her mother and brother on the family farm and later moved to Petersburg right across the street from the Petersburg School, which she attended until moving to Estherville during her senior year in high school.

On Aug. 27, 1939, she was united in marriage to Norman G. Farrand at Calvary Gospel Assembly in Estherville.

She was a charter member of Calvary Gospel Assembly where she was active in music and women's groups. She lived in Estherville until moving to be near most of her family in the Des Moines area.

She had a love of music and played guitar, piano and organ in her church and shared her music ministry at local nursing homes. She adored her family and maintained connected to her family and friends through the years with many letters and greeting cards. She enjoyed taking pictures and kept detailed photo albums and daily journals.

She is survived by three sons, Merlyn Farrand and his wife, Linda, of Manchester, Wayne Farrand and his wife, Janice, of West Des Moines, and Glenn Farrand and his wife, Diana, of Ankeny and one daughter, Sheryl, of Clive; nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren and her brother, Oliver, and his wife, Vivian. of Fon du Lac, Wis.

Her parents and her husband, Norman Farrand, preceded her in death.
