There's something of a building boom going on now in Estherville, and that shows faith in our future.
One of the most obvious is construction for the new Dollar General Store just across from Estherville Lincoln Central High School. Earthwork was well under way early this week.
Another big project is the Asmus Farm Supply addition in the industrial park that will dwarf the existing building. The plan is to be about to house up to a year's supplies - something that should go pretty far in helping farmers get what they need.
There's also a large addition at Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative in south Estherville.
Development continues in the residential sector as well, with three permits issued for new homes in Carrico Heights and two in Country Club Estates.
There's also continuing improvements to both commercial and residential units all over Estherville.
At the Daily News, we've seen a lot of new people coming in to advertise new businesses, looking for jobs or looking for places to live. Many of these people are coming from other states to work here or to attend college at Iowa Lakes.
It took a long, long time, but Estherville is growing again. A strong, farm sector and businesses that have benefited from the ag economy as well as superb educational and medical facilities are making a place for young professionals and families to locate and to grow.
We can thank people like Al Blum and Lyle Hevern of the Estherville Industrial Development Corporation as well as our city council and county board of supervisors for their tireless work and endless vision in helping to develop and promote our area. We're finally seeing the benefits of their many, many years of hard work.
Thank you now and thank you for our brighter future.
