The Estherville Lincoln Central boys and Estherville Lincoln Central/Armstrong-Ringsted girls cross country teams held an un-soap scrimmage Wednesday afternoon.
The annual event helps head coach Tina Burton get a good look at the squads after a week and a half of practice.
Seventh and eighth-grade runners also competed in the event as well as one fifth grader.

"We take all the runners and divided them into five teams," Burton said. "We score it like a regular meet and give little prizes for the winners."
The event also determines who will run varsity for the first meet of the season, which is at Spencer next Tuesday, Aug. 21.
The first four male runners to cross the finish line were Lee Christensen, Nick Peters, Adam Reiter and Martin Christensen.
The first four female runners to finish were Macy Dahl, Heather Natterstad, Rachel Bates and Brianna Enerson.
One notable senior's absence was McKenzie Woodyard.
Burton said Woodyard was held from the scrimmage, but may still run at next week's meet.
The squad hosts its invitational and only home meet on Tuesday, Sept. 6 at the Estherville Golf Course.
