SIOUX RAPIDS - An early 10-3 lead in the season volleyball opener made it look like it might be an easy night for Estherville Lincoln Central.
But the Midgets struggled to get out of that rotation as Sioux Central rallied to take the lead. The rest of the game was a donnybrook with the match eventually going to the host Rebels, 3-2.
"We had set point four or five times in that first game and just couldn't take advantage," said ELC coach Tyler Johnson, as ELC lost that set 32-30. "They're (Sioux Central) a young team and if we'd won that game, it could've stole the momentum for the rest of the night."
ELC came back to win the second game 25-16, but lost the third 25-20 and then took game four 25-18. The fifth and deciding game went to the Rebels, 15-5.
Although ELC was the taller team, it didn't help them.
"They (the Rebels) were a lot smaller and were able to get around the blocks," said Johnson.
Casey Sievert led the ELC attack with 14 kills while Paige Guge finished with 12. Allie Sievert finished with six kills and three blocks. Megan Jensen had four ace serves and Kristen King had six digs.
ELC (0-1) will have a week to make adjustments before hosting Bishop Garrigan next Tuesday.
In the freshmen match, ELC lost 25-23, 23-25, 15-4.
The ELC junior varsity won 25-23, 25-14.
