The Estherville Lincoln Central Junior Varsity Football Team opened the season with a 48-0 win over Storm Lake on Monday.
In the first quarter, Zach Edwards scored on a 3-yard run and Justin Hienrichs threw a two-point conversion pass to Carsten Bosch. In the second quarter, Bosch scored on touchdown runs of 20 and 7 yards. Heinrichs ran in the two-point conversion on the second score.
Heinrichs then scored on a 30-yard run and threw the two-point conversion pass to Zach Humble as ELC led 30-0 at halftime. In the third quarter, Humble returned the opening kickoff of the half 80 yards for a touchdown. Heinrichs later scored on a 24-yard run. In the final period, Blake Gjerde scored on a two-yard run.
Defensively, Bosch had an interception and Dylan Kloehn had a fumble recovery.
Tornadoes pull past ELC frosh
The ELC freshmen lost to Storm Lake as the Tornadoes scored the go-ahead touchdown with 7 seconds left in the game to win 32-28.
For ELC, Bryce Mann returned an interception 32 yards for a touchdown. Mark Paulson scored on runs of 12 and 4 yards in the game. Dan Christensen also returned an interception 60 yards for a touchdown.
Defensively, Tate Evans had two interceptions while Hayden Dowding had a fumble recovery.
The ELC freshmen and junior varsity play in two weeks against Spirit Lake.
