Penalties keep Titans from breaking loose against Chargers

LAURENS - Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire continued to struggle with penalties in a 36-8 loss to Laurens-Marathon on Friday.

The Titans had 10 penalties for 92 yards including one that brought back a touchdown in the first half. While GT/RA avoided the turnovers, the penalties kept them from sustaining their drives.

Meanwhile, Laurens-Marathon scored the only touchdown in the first quarter with 5:54 in the first quarter and added the two-point conversion.

The Chargers scored with 9:09 on a 1-yard run and with 1:54 on a 15-yard run, adding a two-point conversion each time to lead 24-0 at half-time.

Laurens-Marathon scored on a 3-yard run with 7:20.

GT/RA finally broke into the scoring column on a 16-yard run by Blaze Alesch with 5:43 left in the third quarter. Alesch ran in the two-point conversion.

Laurens-Marathon scored their final time with a 52-yard pass in the fourth quarter.

Alesch was 7of-15 passing for 86 yards. Garrett Parker caught four passes for 77 yards and Carter Williamson caught two passes for 9 yards.

GT/RA rushed 26 times for 120 yards. Williamson had 73 yards on eight carries while Alesch had 55 yards on 15 carries and Alex Hoffman had 10 yards on two carries.

Mason McGrauth had an interception and four tackles.

Williamson had 13 tackles while Matt McGrauth had 10, Alesch had 14 and Cody Thompson had five.

Zach Chicoine had two sacks.

GT/RA (0-3 overall, 0-1 in the district) is home against West Bend-Mallard next Friday.
