EMMETSBURG - The Estherville Lincoln Central/North Union middle school cross-country team ran at Emmetsburg Monday night.
In the boys race ELC only had two runners so did not enter the team scoring. Drew Condon placed sixth with a time of 14 minutes, 30 seconds and Marcus Smith placed 17th with a time of 15:44 on the 2-mile course.
In the girls race, ELC placed second scoring 56 points behind Spencer with 38. Spirit Lake finished third with 67 and Algona was fourth with 81. Okoboji and Emmetsburg didn't have enough runners for a team score.
Caressa Franklin led ELC with a fourth-place finish in 14:31 followed by Hallie Jensen in 5th at 14:39, Sydni Quadstad in sixth at 14:54, Karley Hanson placed 18th in 16:03, and finishing out the scoring was Melissa Gruwell placed 23rd at 16:22.
Other runners for ELC/North Union were Taylor Morris 28th in 17:00, Claudia Kinnander 32nd in 17:17, Jerica Walters 36th in 17:51, Bailey Spiegeler 40th in 18:23, Claire Funston 42nd in 19:18, and Maggi Nitchals 47th in 19:53.
The runners went out strong and had a great effort for the first meet of the season.
They will run again on Sept. 18 at Sheldon.
