SPIRIT LAKE - The Spirit Lake defense did a majority of work again as the Indians won their homecoming game 42-6 over Garner-Hayfield/Ventura on Friday.
Spirit Lake came up with six turnovers in the contest, three fumbles and three interceptions with one each returned for touchdowns.
Senior Cody Poock opened the scoring when he scooped up a Cardinal fumble and returned it 16 yards for a touchdown. Poock also caught a 38-yard touchdown pass from Paul Brown later in the first quarter and then scored on an 18-yard run in the second quarter.
Poock and Brown connected again in the fourth quarter on a 43-yard strike.
Nic Amundson snagged two interceptions returning one 40 yards for a touchdown. Brown and Cody Norton each recovered a fumble while Alec Henrickson had an interception.
Poock also had team-high 15 tackles. Brady Mart had nine tackles, McCabe had seven and Norton had six with the lone sack of the night.
The Indians rushed 33 times for 176 yards. Bryson McCabe led the ground attack with 54 yards on seven carries. Poock had 45 yards on 10 carries and Brown had 31 yards on nine carries.
Brown had a big night through the air, as he was 12-of-16 passing for 251 yards and three touchdowns. He also had a pair of interceptions.
Poock had three catches for 127 yards. Andrew Ites caught two passes for 44 yards, McCabe had four catches for 35 yards, Zach Arneson had one catch for 23 yards, Tyler Petersen had one catch for 14 yards and Casey Spaeth caught one pass for 8 yards.
Brett Cochran-Bray was perfect on six extra point attempts, but missed a field goal.
Spirit Lake (4-0) takes on top-ranked Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley in Hull this Friday.
