Sheriff releases STEP statistics

Emmet County Sheriff Mike Martens reports that during the last Special Traffic Enforcement Project "STEP" which began Aug. 23 and finished Sept. 25, the sheriff's office issued 29 citations for violations.

They include one for driving while license suspended, one stop sign violation, two operating while intoxicated, 14 speeding violations, two for driving with no drivers license, one for underage possession of alcohol, one for no proof of insurance, two for failure to have control, one for careless driving, one for possession of a controlled substance, two for possession of drug paraphernalia and one for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Additionally there were 40 warning citations issued: 32 were for speeding, one for a stop sign violation, one for failure to display registration and six for equipment repair.

By participating in this and other "Step" projects throughout the year the sheriff's office will receive $4,500 to be used for the purchase of additional traffic enforcement equipment.
