ARMSTRONG?- The Armstrong-Ringsted Board of Education Monday night discussed plans for reorganization with Sentral School District.

Now in a three-way whole-grade sharing agreement with Sentral and North Kossuth, A-R and Sentral are working on the mechanics of consolidation.

Board president Jim Boyer said the reorganization petition would spell out how the new board would be structured.

Board member George Walker suggested that separate districts would have to be designated for each board member for reorganization to pass with A-R voters.

In other business Monday night, superintendent Matt Berninghaus said annual enrollment payments were $176,000 ahead of what was expected.

Berninghaus also said he believed the district could work through requirements for the SINA designation for 11th grade reading.

Enrollment numbers, said Berninghaus, show:

n North Union Elementary (A-R and Sentral), 227.

n North Union Middle School, 151.

n North Union High School, 217.

n North Kossuth Elementary, 131.

Total enrollment including North Kossuth Elementary shows a total of 726 students, Berninghaus said.

In other business, the board approved a contract with Lydia Fothergill as yearbook supervisor.

The board also approved second reading of graduation policies and retaining Rick Engel as joint attorney for negotiations on a common salary schedule and calendar with Sentral.

The board approved applications to the School Board Review Committee for spending authority from open-enrolled and special ed students.

The board approved a trip for FFA members to the national convention in Indianapolis.

After the retiring board adjourned, the board again appointed Jim Boyer president and Jen Von Bank vice president.

Also approved were board meeting times and dates. Berninghaus noted board policy will have to be changed to reflect the earlier meeting of 6 p.m. the fourth Monday of every month. Current board policy specifies the board will meet at 7 p.m.

Also approved were board operating rules and practices and interim payment of bills.

Von Bank was appointed as county conference board representative.

Berninghaus made committee appointments, including:

n Transportation - George Walker and Wayne Mathine.

n Buildings - Walker and Karen Ann Thackery.

n Personnel - Jim Boyer and Von Bank.

The board will next meet Oct. 22.
