SPIRIT LAKE - After taking on the top team in Class 2A a week ago, Spirit Lake is on the road this week against a team that is struggling in East Sac County.

Spirit Lake coach Josh Bolluyt said the coaches and team learned a few things in last week's 25-10 loss to Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley.

"It gave us an opportunity to see where we're at," Bolluyt said. "It shows us what we need to get better at too."

Bolluyt said he liked how his team answered when the Nighthawks came up with a big play.

"We answered up until the end," he said.

As the team readies for East Sac County, Bolluyt said the players are more focused.

"The guys are energized and want to get be better," he said. "That want to be more consistent in everything that we do."

East Sac County may not provide much of a challenge for Spirit Lake. The Raiders are 0-5 this season, losing Prairie Valley, 28-12 to Pocahontas Area/Pomeroy-Palmer, 42-22 to Estherville Lincoln Central, 34-14 to Forest City and 41-6 to Garner-Hayfield.

Quarterback Ty Jacobsen is 62-of-119 passing for 734 yards with six touchdowns and three interceptions. Chris Villhauer has 229 yards rushing on 67 carries.

Cody Poock continues to lead the Indians' ground attack with 337 yards on 57 carries. Paul Brown has completed 42-of-69 passes for 626 yards with eight touchdowns and three interceptions.
