HOLSTEIN - While Class 2A No. 3 Spirit Lake had plans of winning the district meet in Holstein on Monday, Dickinson County rival and 12th-ranked Okoboji came to run as they edged the Indians 74 to 77.
Spirit Lake will have another chance to outdo the Pioneers as both still qualified for the Class 2A State Meet in Fort Dodge this Saturday along with third-place Western Christian, which finished with 102 points.
Spirit Lake senior Will Norris, the top-rated runner in Class 2A this season, kept up his string of victories by winning the individual district title in 16 minutes, 3.66 seconds-nearly 52 seconds ahead of the rest of the field as only one other runner finished the 5K race in under 17 minutes.
Junior Tanner Goetsch, rated 18th in Class 2A, also finished in the top 10 placing fifth in 17:04.27. Mark Norland took 13th in 17:39.91 while Kyle Anderson placed 26th in 18:09.05 and Jared Brunsvold placed 36th in 18:29.11.
Also running, Kyle Kueper placed 58th in 19:23.40 and Alec Harrington placed 73rd in 20:07.76.
The Class 2A Boys Cross Country Meet takes place at 1:30 p.m. at the Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge.
