SIOUX CITY - Casey Sievert shot 8-for-10 from the field on the way to a 20-point game to lead Class 2A No. 3 Estherville Lincoln Central over Sioux City North, 64-21.
As a team, the Midgets shot 61 percent from the field (22-for-36) while holding North to single digits in three of the four quarters.
"Our defense was really solid," said ELC coach Tony Klein. "We put them to the line too often in the first half. But held them to two field goals in the second, one of which was a three with about 10 seconds left in the fourth quarter."
ELC jumped out to a 13-3 lead after one quarter and led 36-16 at halftime followed by a 15-2 third quarter that made the score 51-18.
"I was happy with the way we transitioned from defense to offense," said Klein. "They were trapping us off of rebounds but we did a nice job of recognizing that, making outlets, and running the court."
Allie Sievert also reached double digits while shooting 6-for-7 from the floor including 4-for-4 from the free throw line. She pulled down a team-high six rebounds.
Emily Kirchner also reached double digits with 13 points including 7-for-10 from the free throw line and 3-for-4 from the floor.
As a team, ELC went 13-for-18 from the free throw line. The Midgets also had 17 assists led by Sara Heywood with five.
The Midgets finished with 16 steals with Heywood and Macy Dahl each with six.
Maggie McCauley and Caitlyn Clayton each chipped in five points while Heywood had three and Dahl had two.
ELC (2-1 overall) is home against Forest City (0-1) on Friday.
