ARMSTRONG - After leading most of the night, the North Union girls needed double overtime to defeat Garner-Hayfield/Ventura 39-37 on Tuesday.
The Warriors led 10-5 after one quarter, 15-12 at halftime and 27-24 after three quarters.
But the score was tied at 32-32 at the end of regulation and 35-35 after the first overtime.
"Both teams tried to milk the clock in overtime," said North Union coach Merle Tigges. "We got up by two in the second overtime and they shot a half-court shot that missed at the end."
Sara Rolling and Aurora Oliver led North Union with 11 points each. Rolling pulled down nine rebounds and Oliver had two blocked shots. Madison Bollig had five points and five rebounds while Jasmine Clause finished with five points and four rebounds. Dena Looft had two points and Cheyanne Boland had one point and three steals.
Looft, Oliver and Boland each had three assists.
"Defensively both teams played well-we just played well enough to pull it out," said Tigges.
North Union (3-0 overall) has a nine-day layoff until next Thursday's home game against Newell-Fonda.
