MILFORD - The Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire wrestling team had four runner-up finishes while taking eighth overall at the Okoboji Invitational on Saturday in Milford.

Taking second were Austin Thompson (132), Ty Gibson (138), Matt McGrauth (160) and Cody Thompson (285). Alex Hoffman (120) finished third and Kevin Smith finished fifth.

"The GT-RA wrestlers showed dedication in all of their matches at the Okoboji Invitational," said coach Mike Jensen. "They all wrestled with a lot of heart but some made little mistakes that made them come up short in their matches. This year is going to be a rebuilding year for our program and we look forward to the challenge."

At 132 pounds, Austin Thompson pinned Spirit Lake's Nick Gross in 3:30 and then won a semifinals match, 4-2 in overtime, over Okoboji's Noah Bouse. In the finals, he lost 6-0 to Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn's Heath Nagel.

Gibson, ranked third in Class 1A at 132 pounds, pinned his first two opponents-Spirit Lake's Ethan Bergenhall in 39 seconds and Sibley-Ocheyedan's Cole Hieronimus in 5:52.

In the finals, he faced Spencer's Levi Gilmore, ranked third at 138 pounds in Class 2A, and lost 8-3.

McGrauth had a first-round bye and then defeated S-O's Andrew Brockshus 11-6. He lost by fall in the finals to Spencer's Tanner Schafer in 1:40.

Cody Thompson opened the day with a pin in 1:51 over HMS' Conner Kochel and then edged Spirit Lake's Cody North 3-2 before falling to west Hancock's Chris Schleuger by fall in 1:11.

Hoffman opened the day with a pin over West Hancock's Hunter Hiscocks in 2:44 and then lost to Spirit Lake's Doug Miner by fall in 1:40. He came back in the consolation round to beat Okoboji's Ryan Bolster by fall in 1:46 and then pinned Laurens-Marathon's Wyatt Shannon in 59 seconds in the third place match.

After losing his first match, Smith bounced back with a 4-0 decision in the second round, then lost by major decision in the third round. A 4-3 overtime victory in the fifth place match over Andrew McCarthy of Central Lyon/George-Little Rock gave Smith fifth place.

Also wrestling for GTRA Saturday were Tyler Hoffman (145), Hunter Brown (152), Kodi Ferguson (170) and Kyle Long (195).
