Initial weigh-in is Friday, Jan. 11

By Michael Tidemann - Staff Writer , Estherville Daily News

Estherville Rotarians Thursday heard about the Lifestyle Challenge and how it could help make them - or anyone - a lot healthier.

Jen Hough, Rotarian and Avera Holy Family Health community relations manager, recapped last year's Live Healthy Iowa program. However, upon review, Avera and the Regional Wellness Center decided to join forces and revisit the Lifestyle Challenge program which Avera sponsored previous years, also in conjunction with the Emmet County Wellness Coalition.

Initial weigh-in is Friday, Jan. 11 at the Regional Wellness Center. The program lasts 12 weeks, until March 29, with weekly weigh-ins Fridays at the RWC.

Two or more people may make up a team which may consist of male, female, co-ed, family or co-workers. People do not have to belong to the RWC to participate; however, RWC members have the advantage of matching the RWC amenities and their weight loss and exercise goals. Cost os $35 a person.

Those participating will get:

n Weekly weigh-ins at the RWC.

n Tracking of both weight loss and exercise minutes.

n Instructor-lead fitness classes to help participants reach their goals.

n A three-ring binder to help monitor progress and to keep reference materials.

n Monthly calendars with Lifestyle events.

n Exercise minute charts.

n A health-related special topic and presenter each week.

n Team and individual contests and prizes.

n Workout of the Week.

n Healthy email tips.

n Healthy recipes.

n Food journaling ideas.

Add-on options include:

n Those who are not RWC members and have not been members for over six months may join the Lifestyle Challenge and receive $50 off their membership. Offer ends Jan. 25.

n A drop-in punch pass for aerobic classes at the

RWC, $20 for members (normally $30) and $50 for non-members (normally $70). There will be a limit of two purchased during the Challenge.

n Discount on RWC fitness class registration fees for the spring fitness session. Members and non-members get a $15 discount per class.

n Discount on personal training sessions.

Hough said people can register in advance at the RWC. Those coming in to pay should bring payment, teammates' names and the name of their team.
