As the Emmet County Wellness Coalition made plans for the final countdown to the Lifestyle Challenge which starts Friday, we should perhaps all consider participating in the Challenge that is bound to make a happier and healthier Emmet County.
Participants can register at the Regional Wellness Center which is co-sponsoring this year's Challenge with Avera Holy Family Health with assistance from the Coalition. Teams can be as small as two persons, and both weight loss and exercise will be emphasized. This year's Challenge starts this Friday and lasts 12 weeks with weekly weigh-ins. Registration is $35 a person.
So why is participating in the Challenge important?
Well, quite frankly, your life could depend on it.
Obesity is rivaling cigarettes now as the major killer in America. Strokes, heart disease and diabetes are all directly related to obesity. Losing weight and staying in good physical shape will give you a longer and happier life.
If you really think about it, investing in your health - in this case just $35 - is probably one of the best investments you'll ever make. Just think of what a person could save in medical and long-term care costs over the years. Staying in good physical condition could mean the difference between a retirement of sickness and poverty or health and happiness.
Anyone registering by Wednesday will receive a packet on the start of the Challenge on Friday. However, anyone can register up to the first day of the Challenge on Friday.
You can continue living the way you are now or you can create a new you.
It's all up to you.
