Today is Inspire Your Heart with Art Day, a day dedicated to embracing art around and within us.
Just last night, Estherville Lincoln Central High School students participated in the fine arts coffeehouse at the high-school cafeteria. The students were fantastic and showed just what great local talent we have.
Anyone who's been to similar coffeehouses at Iowa Lakes Community College has seen great talent too, not just from students but the community.
The growth of the arts in Estherville just over the last few years has been enormous. We have the Excel! Estherville Arts and Culture Committee which has sponsored Opera Iowa, Gospel in the Square, the Neighborhood Artist Review and the Downtown Market every Thursday during the summer.
Committee members are needed to help plan events. If you're interested in serving on the committee or are an artist or musician and want to get your work out into the community, call the Estherville Area Chamber of Commerce at 362-3541.
The Estherville Art Center is also looking for members to work on projects like the storefront art project. If you're interested in participating, call Scott Griffith at 362-865-2721.
Many communities have made a name for themselves by becoming art communities. Estherville could easily do that too. What it takes, though, is people willing to come out of the woodwork and share their talents with others and people to help promote them.
So please, share. And help make Estherville a focal point for art now just now but in years to come.
