Spirit Lake rally falls short against Spencer

SPIRIT LAKE - Spirit Lake mounted a second-half rally, but came up short against rival Spencer, 54-51.

The Indians trailed 19-7 after one quarter and 31-21 at halftime, but cut the deficit to 42-37 to start the fourth quarter. Trevor Smith hit a 3-pointer to cut the lead to one at 52-51 with about a minute remaining. But the Tigers sealed the win at the free throw line.

Smith and Paul Brown each finished with 14 points while Alec Henrickson and Tyler Alger each had eight, Alex Pringnitz had six and Sam Harms had one.

Harms led the rebounding with five boards. Brown and Pringnitz each had three assists.

Spirit Lake (14-7) will host North Union in a Class 2A first-round game next Monday, Feb. 11.
