Animal shelter a great example of cooperation

March 19, 2013
Estherville Daily News

It appears that there may be a permanent home for the Animal County Animal Shelter, thanks to the hard work and dedication of lots of people.

It's been the personal mission of Kristy Henning for quite some time now to get the shelter up and running. While struggling through temporary quarters, Henning has garnered the support of local individuals and businesses to make it happen.

It appears as though the shelter could find a home on property donated by Roy Gage. The Emmet County Board of Supervisors Tuesday indicated it would probably let the shelter use county property at the end of the south access road for parking, either on an easement or long-term lease.

This project is a great idea in a great location and it's long overdue. And it deserves the undivided support of the entire community.

Undoubtedly, the shelter has had an enormous amount of support, if attendance at Sunday's omelet breakfast at the Duhigg Center is any indication. That support has been long and ongoing, though, and it's the support for a great cause.

This is an excellent location for the shelter. It's in an area that's already zoned as ag and Gage already has his menagerie close by (though not too close).

Anyone who has ever had a pet understands the importance of having an animal shelter where our fine, furry friends can find a home.

This is yet another example of what can happen when a group of people get behind a cause.

And a great spokesperson like Kristy who stands up for animals everywhere.
