Lisa Sue Hansen was named Estherville Good Samaritan Society 2013 Volunteer of the Year at Good Sam's annual volunteer luncheon.
Hansen and her husband, Randy, have been volunteering at Good Sam for seven years.
They present monthly programs of karaoke, concertina and accordion music. The couple share their talents equally and they are compassionate and talented. As they share their time and music therapy with the individuals at Good Samaritan Society of Estherville, the joy of music fills the room. They consider all at the Good Samaritan their friends with a true Christ-like unselfish sharing of their time and a genuine compassion for the love of music.
Lisa grew up on a farm in Nebraska close to Lincoln. At age five, she started dancing at polka fests with her parents, a family that embraced its Czech culture. Lisa also plays the concertina and button accordion and has shared her music with local church choirs, praise bands and contemporary Christian musicians.
Lisa and Randy met at the Marathon to Marathon in Storm Lake and a year later connected again at Grandma's Marathon in Duluth, Minn. Lisa is currently trying to run marathons in all 50 states plus Washington, D.C., something Randy accomplished 10 years ago, finishing 157 marathons.
Lisa continues to stay fit and exercise all year, walking, riding bike and working out at local gyms.
She enjoys her monthly music entourage for Good Samaritan residents. She loves to entertain and see the smiles when she and
Randy visit. Sometimes they bring their cat, Sylvester.
