Lakers unable to pull out win vs. No. 2 DMACC

BOONE - The Iowa Lakes baseball team played a few close games against second-ranked Des Moines Area Community College, but the Bears ended up with a four-game sweep over the Lakers this weekend.

On Saturday, the Lakers lost 8-5 in the first game of a doubleheader and 4-3 in nine innings in the second game.

In the first game, Chaday Figueroa took the loss for the Lakers. He pitched five innings and gave up eight runs on three hits with fie strikeouts.

The Lakers managed to out-hit the Bears 9-4. Edwin Torres was 2-4 with two RBIs. Leonardo Ramirez was 2-4 with an RBI. Steve Kandborg and Malduino Gonzalez each went 1-3 with Gonzalez recording an RBI. Ryan O'Melia was 1-4 and scored twice.

In the second game, the two teams were tied at 2-2 after seven innings. Iowa Lakes scored one run in the top of the ninth, but the Bears answered with two runs.

DMACC out-hit the Lakers 14-6. Jonathan Brinez got the start giving up two runs on eight hits in five innings with two strikeouts. Edwin Dominguez pitched 2 1/3 innings and gave up two hits with two strikeouts. Juan Perez took the loss. In 1 1/3 innings, he gave up two runs on four hits with three strikeouts.

At the plate, Miguel Rosario was 1-2 with a run and Gonzalez and Kevin Arroyo each went 1-3.

On Sunday, the Lakers were unable to hold off the Bears with a 9-6 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh. DMACC plated five runs to win 11-9. DMACC then won the final game 11-1 in five innings in the second game.

In the first game, Jesus Brito pitched 5 1/3 innings and gave up 11 runs on 11 hits with two strikeouts in the loss. At the plate, Leonardo Ramirez and O'Melia each went 2-4 with two RBIs, Gonzalez was 1-3 with two runs and an RBI and Arroyo was 2-4 with an RBI.

The Lakers managed just three hits off DMACC's Dominic Reed in the second game. Ramirez was 2-2 with a run and Tanner Johnson was 1-2 with an RBI. Alcides Fuguet took the loss on the mound for the Lakers.

Iowa Lakes (13-17 overall, 5-11 in conference play) are scheduled to host Western Wisconsin Tech today.
