NU girls come up short at Cornbelt meet

ARMSTRONG - The North Union Girls Track Team did nearly everything it could to win the Cornbelt conference Meet on Tuesday, but came up a point short to West Bend-Mallard/Twin River Valley.

The Wolverines finished with 135 points while the Warriors came in with 134.

Clay Central-Everly finished with 58 points, Graettinger/Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire had 32 and Corwith-Wesley-Luverne had 14.

"We think we had the right lineup and the girls ran well-we just came up a point short," said North Union coach Loren Looft. "I'm proud of the effort the girls put forth and we had a lot of p.r's (personal records).

Individually, Allie Ingalls gave North Union two top finishes as she won the 100-meter hurdles in 16.93 seconds and the 400-meter hurdles in 1:13.01. The Warriors got double points in both events as Jordan Guerdet placed second in the 100 hurdles in 17.65 seconds and Sara Rolling placed third in the 400 hurdles in 1:18.56.

Rolling also finished first in the high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 8 inches and Dena Looft placed first in the discus with a throw of 103 feet, 5 inches. Katrina Newman was fifth in the discus with a throw of 61 feet, 10 inches.

Two North Union relays placed first. The 4x100-meter relay of Ingalls, Sara Johnson Guerdet and MaKayla Hardman finished in 54.54 seconds and the shuttle hurdle relay team of Emily Hagebock, Emma Engelby, Rolling and Guerdet won in 1:16.41.

Hardman took second in the 100 and 200 races in 13.19 seconds and 28.24 seconds, respectively. Ingalls placed fourth in the 100 in 13.62 seconds and Johnson placed fifth in the 200 in 30.88 seconds.

Ashley Olson finished second in the 1500-meter run in 6:38.10 while Jeanette Govern placed fourth in 7:54.32.

The Warriors placed second in five relays. The 4x200-meter relay team of Elizabeth Boyer, Taylor Mathine, Maaike Weser and Rebecca Boyer finished in 2:06.94. The 4x400-meter relay team of Paige Taylor, Hagebock, Rolling and Kristian Petersen finished in 4:53.75. The 4x800-meter relay team of Petersen, Alexis Laubenthal, Govern and Gardner finished in 13:06.33.

The sprint medley team of Rebecca Boyer, Guerdet, Hardman and Jayden Kissner finished in 2:04.89. The distance medley relay team of Elizabeth Boyer, Mathine, Petersen and Gardner finished in 5:19.89.

In the 400-meter dash, Johnson finished third in 1:07.68 and Kissner placed fourth in 1:08.08.

In the 800-meter run, Taylor placed third in 2:46.79 and Gardner placed fourth in 2:51.17. Olson took third in the 3000-meter run in 14:58.36 and Looft placed third in the shot put with a throw of 28 feet, 7 inches.

Engelby placed fifth in the long jump with a leap of 13 feet, 1 inch.
