ILEC Round Up program donates to Friends

May 2, 2013
By Michael Tidemann - Staff Writer , Estherville Daily News

Area residents are a big step closer to having another great walking trail thanks to a donation to the Friends of Fort Defiance by the Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative Operation Round Up member program Thursday.

Crystal Pluth, member of the ILEC board of directors, presented a $500 check from the program funded by members who "round up" their checks for their monthly utility bills to help area causes.

The Friends group will put the money toward a fabric and crushed limestone surface on the half-mile Whitetail Ridge interpretive trail on the west end of the park. The trail, located between the west parking lot and the old ranger's cabin, has a number of natural points of interest marked by signage. The Friends plan on completing at least part of the trail this summer.
