SPENCER - It was cold. It was windy. And it turned into an even more miserable day for the Estherville Lincoln Central Girls Tennis Team.

The Midgets fought as closely as they could in the first round of the Class 1A Tennis Team Regional on Saturday. But they came out on the wrong end of too many matches in losing in the first round to Storm Lake 5-2.

Every single singles match was decided by a tiebreaker and even the first set of the only completed doubles match had a tiebreaker.

ELC's wins came at the No. 4 and the No. 6 singles.

Amber Schacherer defeated Nouk Keovenphone 6-0, 4-6 (12-10) and Emily Jorgenson won 6-3, 2-6 (10-4).

In other singles play, Bailey Hagen lost 6-4, 4-6 (10-6) to Lannie Brown; Maddy Burns lost 6-3, 3-6 (10-7) to Emerly Mai; Samantha Rosinger lost 6-4, 4-6 (10-4) to Cheyanne Smith and Mackenzie Wilson lost (5-7, 6-3 (10-8) to Danielle Dawson.

In doubles, Hagen and Burns lost 7-6(7-5), 6-4) to Brown and Mai.

Storm Lake lost in the second round to Spirit-Lake/Okoboji 5-0.

ELC will travel to the Class 1A Individual Regional meet in LeMars on Thursday.
