Ramberg stresses culture of safety

You can never be too safe on the job.

But how about off the job?

Clint Ramberg, director of wind access for Spider, an industrial scaffold manufacturer, stressed a culture of safety in his remarks to attendees at WindTech 2013 Wednesday. The event was cosponsored by Windpower Engineering & Development magazine and Iowa Lakes Community College.

"Our company is concerned about the safety of their employees," Ramberg said, urging a culture of safety - not just on the job but off as well. "That's not just defined by what happens at work," he said.

"I try to embrace a culture of safety in every aspect of my life," said Ramberg. "Everything that we do impacts our ability to function throughout our lives."

Ramberg recalled three scenarios - all away from what one would normally consider the workplace - in which people suffered broken ankles. One was in a motorcycle accident, another was while hunting and another was a woman who tripped on a carpet at a convention.

"If you want to live a culture of safety then that's about it," Ramberg said. "You only have two knees, you only have one back, you only have two eyes. I want you to be safe in every aspect of your life - that's a safety culture."

"Be safe workers," he said. "Live the safe culture. Let that be who you are."
