Michele Erickson, Emmet County auditor and commissioner of elections, has issued a reminder to area residents regarding voter registration requirements.
According to Erickson, nonregistered voters are required to register to vote before they cast their ballots. Both may be done in the auditor's office or at the polls. After May 24 in the auditor's office and on June 4 at the polls, nonregistered voters are required to prove who they are and where they live. The easiest way is to have a current and valid photo ID with their correct address.
If someone has moved or changed his or her name, the person should call the auditor's office for more information.
Keep in mind county offices are closed for Memorial Day on May 27.
