Rotarians hear about Wilson Ranch

May 23, 2013
By Michael Tidemann - Staff Writer , Estherville Daily News

Estherville Rotarians Thursday had a good lesson on what it takes to breed quarter horses from Kaylynn Wilson of Wilson Ranch.

Wilson Ranch offers club calves and American Quarter Horse Association certified quarter horses. LT, a mare the Wilsons raised, was a two-time world champion.

Kaylynn said foals are weaned at 90 days and horses get put on a conditioning program. They also condition horses for other owners.

A farrier comes every six weeks from Milwaukee and horses are kept in a barn at 72-75 degrees.

Customers come from all over the world, and Wilson Ranch has the distinction for breeding what became the World Champion Appaloosa in 2008. The Wilsons have even sent horses to Italy and Australia.

In addition to quarter horses, the Wilsons raise club calves. While living in South Dakota they had 400 stock cows.
