After a poor start against a good Forest City squad, the Estherville Lincoln Central Baseball Team never quite got back on track in a 13-3 loss on Friday.
The Indians scored six runs off six hits and three walk of ELC starter Tucker Milburn, who only went two-thirds of an inning.
The Indians led 9-0 before ELC got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth inning. Matt Burrell led off with a triple and scored on a passed ball. Corey Reeves then reached on an error. Justin Frederick singled and a passed ball allowed courtesy runner Dan Christensen and Frederick to advance to second and third. Bryce Hansen then hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Christensen.
After Forest city came back with two runs in the top of the fifth inning, ELC got one back as Billy Snyder hit a one-out double followed by a single from Adam Reiter. Snyder scored when Burrell reached on an error.
Meanwhile ELC used four different pitches on the mound. After Milburn was relieved after 10 batters, Tim Greving came in and got the final out. Greving returned six straight batters including four strikeouts.
But with two outs in the third, the Indians came up with a single and then Greving hit a batter. Two singles combined with an ELC error allowed the three runs to score. Greving finally got out of that inning, but then walked the first batter of the fourth inning.
Riley Strenge took his turn on the mound and got through the fourth inning without giving up a run with one walk and one strikeout. But he then walked the first two batters of the fifth inning.
Austin Egeland closed out the game and finished with two strikeouts and no walks. Egeland didn't get the help he needed from his defense in the seventh as ELC committed four errors in the inning.
ELC had five hits on the night compared to 11 for the Indians. Reiter was 1-2 while Snyder, Burrell, Reeves and Frederick each went 1-3.
ELC (1-3 overall) travels to Orange City Tuesday to face MOC-Floyd Valley.
