Freshman Carson Gjerde earned her first varsity softball victory as Estherville Lincoln Central gave her plenty of run support in a 9-1 win over Cherokee on Wednesday.

Gjerde pitched all seven innings giving up one unearned run on six hits with three strikeouts and three walks.

Offensively, ELC went to work immediately in the first inning. Macy Dahl reached on a Cherokee error and Kristen King hit a double. A single by Emily Kirchner up the right side scored Dahl. Then King scored when the Braves' catcher overthrew the pitcher. Kirchner then scored on a passed ball.
