Armstrong Council addresses street repair request

ARMSTRONG - The Armstrong City Council Monday heard - and addressed - a request for repairs on A Avenue.

Lucas Oleson asked if gravel or cold mix would be put in potholes in the street, and mayor Marv Dailey agreed that the work should be done.

The council also met Justin Haukoos, the new full-time second street department employee who started Monday.

The council also approved a liquor license renewal application by the VFW. Also approved was an special event application by Dale's Recreation for a beer garden in its parking lot for July 4.

City clerk Connie Thackery called the board's attention to a hazard mitigation meeting 5:30 p.m. Monday, June 24. Thackery said every Emmet County community is required to have the meeting. She said the fire department needs to be represented since it is closely involved with hazard mitigation.

Thackery said the meeting can't occur during a regular council meeting. She said the more people that attend the meeting, the more credit the city will receive. The city will be incorporated into the county's hazard mitigation plan, Thackery said. If a large enough of a group shows up, the meeting will be held in the community center rather than the council chambers.

The council also discussed doing street repairs after the Fourth of July.

Adrian Hagebock suggested the council consider hiring Brittney Mitchell as pool manager for the month of June until another manager can be found. Mitchell was pool manager for the past two years; however, she would only be available for the month of June.

Hagebock also asked about a leaking hydrant at GKN.

Thackery said the hydrant could be dug now; however, she said city maintenance director Tom Leach didn't know if the work could be done immediately.
