Ambassadors get Grandview ‘grand’ tour

June 5, 2013
By Michael Tidemann - Staff Writer , Estherville Daily News

"This building was really spun off by our Wednesday night," Grandview Baptist Church pastor Joel Jorgenson told the Estherville Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors who toured the church's new activity center wing Wednesday.

If the addition is at all any indication, Wednesday night must be busy indeed.

The 14,000-square-foot addition brings to 23,000 square feet the total area of the church that has more than doubled from 70-80 parishioners it had when Jorgenson took over as pastor to the 170-180 parishioners currently - a number that's nearly matched by the 150-160 people participating in Wednesday night programs - many of whom are not parish members.

In addition to a full basketball/volleyball court and other activity rooms, there are eight classrooms on the second level.

That has led a number of people to ask if Grandview intends on starting a Christian school - something Estherville has been missing since the Christian school closed at the top of Half-Mile Hill several years ago.

"The answer is maybe," Jorgenson said.

The addition doubles the church nursery area that's available for parents during services, Wednesday night activities, funerals and other events.
